[Descriptive Essay]Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines-these are just some of the famous schools in the Philippines today. Different people attend these schools, different attitudes, different tastes, different styles, and different interests. But somehow people with the common attitude, taste, style, and interest would eventually form a group and would stay in one place bonding with each other every time their schedule will permit them to. And this would decipher the kinds of people in that school.
One time when I was walking in Ateneo, I heard people talking. They actually just met each other and asked each other from what school they came from. One said she came from Assumption while the other one said she came from Poveda. I remembered immediately the article I read in a blog that stated the schools of the people, who were coño, and I said to myself “So the 2 girls are coño?”
Being coño has really no unique definition. I found a blog and the writer in this blog wrote about his opinion and experience on what he preferred to call “kakonyohan”. I was surprised on the number of people who commented in this article. People expressed their opinions on their understanding of being coño and of course these people have different and conflicting opinions about this topic. One said that coños were the people who have Spanish blood in them. Another said that they are people who are trying hard to fit in the community. One also said that coño people are those who are rich and well-educated. But for me, coño people are those who think they are better than other people.
The “coño”/rich group are people who are mestizo/mestiza, chinito/chinita. They may look good in the outside but wait until you get to know this person. They dress casually, like most of us do with jeans and shirts, yet their outfits may cost thousands of pesos. They usually speak in English or they speak the so-called “coño speech”, the maarte way of speaking in English which is a mixture of English and Filipino which has a weird accent, sometimes talking about maybe school work but most of the time scrutinizing other people on the way they dress, talk, or act not knowing other people are doing this behind their backs too. When a person from this group passes by, you can easily smell the scent of their perfume intoxicating all the people in a room or hallway, and if you touch them, you would feel their soft hands and smooth skin because of their assistants or helpers doing all the work for them. If I were to compare them with food, they would probably taste like Indian food, the type of food I don’t like, because they speak bad things about other people thinking they are better than them like this one guy I know from the coño group.
I know someone named Christopher and he can be considered to be one of those in the coño group. He is short, chinito, gay and a backstabbing freak. I once borrowed his Lacoste shirt, and when I was about to return it, he told me to keep it because he wasn’t using it anyway. Yeah, he is rich but so what? He’s really fluent in speaking English. Yeah, he is good in speaking in English but he wastes his time talking about his insecurities. Whenever he recites in our English class, I’m always amazed by the way he makes difficult words sound ordinary and by the way he insult other people. Everytime we’re walking together walking in Ateneo, there was not a day that he would not tell me about a person on how terribly he looks. There was once when his blockmate asked a question about Physics, after he talked to his blockmate he said that the question his blockmate asked was so easy and that his blockmate was stupid. I found out that he wasn’t only a backstabbing freak but also plastic, cold, hard, shiny, plastic.
These freaks should not be trusted. You don’t know your coño friend might be doing this to you. They are not better than us but they think they are. They are just some insecure people who don’t want to be left out.
